Now we can only admire and be proud of that people, who gave the future to our lives.George Washington is one of the most outstanding personalities, who made a great contribution to historical development of United States. He was the first President of America, he was the commander in chief during the American Revolution, he took the leading part in the making of the Constitution after the war and he acted with congress to establish the first great executive departments and to lay the foundations of the modern federal
judiciary.Such a brave person was born in Westmoreland country, Virginia, on February 22, 1732 in the family of well-to-do farmer. His father, Augustine, has four children by his first wife and six by his second wife, Mary Ball, George's mother. The boy spent much of his time outdoors and his formal education was slight, but he mastered without assistance a great number of different subjects including topography and military history. At fourteen he surveyed his father's farms determining the exact boundaries of his land. At 15 George knew what he wanted in life - to be rich and respected. When he was twenty-one years old his military life began. At this time French soldiers from Canada had built forts in the Ohio Valley on land claimed by
England. Washington was aide-de-camp of British General Edward Braddock against the French and the Indians. In the fighting Washington showed the qualities of a first-rate officer. In 1755 he was appointed colonel and entrusted with the defense of Virginia's western frontier. In 1758 he became a country gentleman and successful businessman. On January 1759 he married
Martha, a rich widow with two children.With the outbreak of the Revolutionary War in 1755 George Washington was named as commander in chief of the Continental army. Washington had an unusual ability to inspire men. His soldiers did not have enough guns or enough ammunition; they were often ragged and hungry. Washington lived and suffered with them. The war lasted for 7 years and George Washington almost
seized to hope. At last peace talks began in Paris in 1782. When peace came, Washington bid farewell to his soldiers and retired to his home in Mount Vernon, Virginia as the hero and symbol of new nation.The Constitutional Convention met at Philadelphia in May 1787. Washington, as a delegate of Virginia, served as its president.
