Have you ever had an occasion to make a fool of yourself trying to guess the age of your friends' children, especially those you don't see often?I just did this. I was speaking with a friend whom I hadn't seen in quite some time and then I said: Gosh, your daughter must be what? Twelve? My... time flies! In which he answered: My daughter is finishing college this year!Oops! The truth is: time flies, not only for our friends' children, but for everyone, whether if you are having fun or not. It truly goes by so fast! Your child starts kindergarten and with a blink of an eye, he graduates High School. And we insist in thinking: Nah, for me time passes just too slowly. Well, better change your mind, because one day you are 25 and when you least expect, you are 55.And then you ask yourself: what have I done with my life? How did I arrive where I am? Is this what I had in mind? Is this part of my life plan? And then you realize that Lo! You didn't have a life plan. Well, congratulations! You just blew more than two thirds of your life! Yikes! The 2/3 where you were supposed to get an education, get married, raise your children, establish yourself as a successful professional, create a circle of life long friends, make money, help your children, fulfill your dreams and so on.Of course, most of us do just that though we operate on auto-pilot. We do things without really knowing what we are doing, where we are going, or how to get there. Life just happens. We have our ups and downs, gains and losses, ins and outs. One example: How about our family life? We get married; well, most of us do. However, do we choose the best partner? Do we really, truly know the other parent of our children? Or do we just fall in love and think that it is enough to share our life with someone or to carry the immense responsibility of raising children? How about our occupation? Do we make plans before we graduate HS to determine what exactly we are going to do with our passions? Do we know how we are to make a living doing what we truly love to do? Or do we just follow what we think will be good for us and learn to commute and spend most of our days doing what we'd rather not do and sharing our lives with people we sincerely don't care about? How about our dreams? Do we have dreams that we truly want to come to fruition? Do we have a passion, a cause we want to pursue? What do we really love? How will we go about fulfilling our dreams? What are the path we will take to see that is comes true and makes us indeed very happy? How about our bodies? Have we decided what is good for us to do and what we need to know to keep our bodies working optimally for the rest of our lives? How about our leisure activities? Did we plan to take trips and visit places; do we know a foreign language; can we play an instrument; can we play a sport; do we have a hobby? It is never late to start. Think how many aspects in our life that need positive direction and think whether you are on auto-pilot, taking what happens to you or whether you have made a plan so you can look ahead and know what is going to happen and look behind and say: Sure, it goes too fast; but I was and I am always ready!© Maria Moratto 2006Want to have more abundance, health, time, love, fun, and blessings?
