Physical Activity Always Follows Mental Activity

Author : Chris Crouch
What?Don't just think fast…think first!"All that man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts."So What? This quote is from a great book titled As a Man Thinketh by James Allen. It is one of the most powerful books you can read and it illustrates the point of this article…you cannot stay organized until you change the thought patterns that drive your daily activities. The mental side of getting organized is significantly more important than anything else you can do. If you want to get organized and stay organized, get your mind right and the rest will easily follow. Is your office cluttered? Are you always in a rush and complaining that you don't have enough time to get it all done? What image do you suppose this is projecting to others around you? What do they think of your chaotic manner of operating? How would you like to have an operation performed by a surgeon or fly with an airline pilot who operated in this manner? Many people continually advertise (and often verbalize and brag about) how busy and stressed-out they are. They try to gain points by telling everyone about their heroic efforts to overcome their overwhelming circumstances. They are, of course, also interested in getting promoted, gaining more responsibility and making more money. Their managers typically look at them and wonder, "How can I give them any more responsibility?" Their customers wonder, "How can they handle my account? They can't handle what they have now. They are already in over their heads!"Now What?Over the next few days, try to increase your level of awareness about how many things you are doing automatically…without really thinking. This can be good news or bad news. Look for those times when it is bad news. If you feel the pressure starting to build up, your natural response is often to speed up and chase after things, rather than slowing down and thinking about what you are doing. For the next few days, when you feel that you are under a lot of pressure, slow down and think about what you are doing and determine the most productive use of your time. Under stress, many people default to counterproductive or low-value actions (overeating, overdrinking, reading worthless e-mails, going to worthless meetings, cleaning out their middle desk drawer, etc.). Learn to default to a productive activity instead…think! As Einstein said, "Problems can't be solved at the same level of consciousness that created them."
