We design our lives through the power of choices. -Richard BachJanuary is a time of new beginnings and it automatically inspires within me a process of deep personal reflection. This inquiry is usually focused around what it means to live an intentional and purpose filled life. I look at my willingness to take full responsibility for the way I act and react to whatever circumstances enter my reality. This self examination process involves shining the light of awareness into every corner to expose what might be obscure or hidden. The insights gained during this exploration show me where I need to focus my personal attention so that I may continue to expand my awareness. It is my intention to be as awake as possible so that I can make the highest, most conscious choices.
Choose and be aware that you are choosing your reality in each moment. We are in the midst of a consciousness revolution. There is a waking up process taking place and more of the general population is becoming acutely aware of the impact of their thoughts, words and deeds. There is a realization that the energy of every action creates a ripple affecting every level of our existence. As a result, people are beginning to take more responsibility for how they act and interact in the world. This involves confronting denials and staying alert for the opportunity to make informed, conscious decisions in every moment. As electromagnetic beings, we attract to ourselves the perfect people and experiences needed in order to grow, expand and heal. Once the energetic charge or negative energy held around an issue is released then that energy is free and can be used productively. Any negativity held in the body/mind, will continue to call our attention to it, through life's repetitive patterns. When these experiences are recognized, they can be explored to expose the underlying difficulty. The more work we do on ourselves, the more obscure the situation may be. The key is to identify and release the subtle distortions in our belief systems. Watch for the times you ask yourself, "Why is this happening to me again?" This is a golden moment – a time when you are being presented with the magnificent opportunity for change.Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice. -Wayne DyerIt is easy to be warm, patient and loving when all is going well. It is when we are under pressure that we need to watch ourselves carefully. How do you respond? Do you blame others? Do you get frustrated or feel overwhelmed? Does this frustration spill out onto the innocents in your life? Many of our decisions, whether you consider the outcome good or bad, are made unconsciously as a result of the existing bio computer program. We may, or may not, be conscious of the fact that we are actually choosing our responses. Wayne Dyer once asked; "If you squeeze an orange, what do you get?" Not a difficult question - orange juice, of course. We are just like that orange, when we are under pressure, what comes out is what's inside. Denial along with our unconscious reactions is the cause for most of our pain and suffering. The end to our misery is to know our true nature and recognize how powerful we truly are.Life is a choice - as is how you handle the pitfalls along its bumpy road. -Julie D. AndersenTake a look at your experiences from the perspective of the following scenario. If your plane is late and you find yourself with a 3 hour delay on top of a 3 hour layover, what would you do? How would you react? You might say that it depends on a lot of extraneous data but I would not be so sure. Unconscious conditioning is more likely to be in charge of the way this scenario would play out. Your reactions could range from anger and frustration to finding a positive in the situation. Maybe you could write your monthly contemplation using the experiences of the day as a source of inspiration and insight. You could be grateful that the airline was cautious and not willing to take chances with the lives of their passengers. You could take advantage of the space created by the situation. You could spend some time with your breath, read a book, people watch, make a few phone calls, or you could be restless and anxious about what appears to be a loss of time. The truth is that it is only lost if you waste it.Mankind's greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice.
- Elizabeth Kubler-RossThe truth is that we can't really avoid making choices because "not choosing" is still a choice. Clichés such as; "You can run but you cannot hide" or "Wherever you go, there you are" tell the story all too well. Life is constantly teaching us though providing opportunities to make choices that serve the highest good for all involved. The reaction of paralysis or hysteria shows that fear is the obstacle. Support and courage is needed to make the changes that are desired. There is the need to be constantly watchful for the pitfalls of judgment, blame and shame. These emotions along with our defenses show us that there are lies that we believe about ourselves or life. When you find yourself navigating through life on "auto pilot" instead of being in the drivers seat, then it is a time for change - you are already waking up.Through the many decisions we make, we chart a unique and personal course on our personal journey to self awareness. If your life is not the way you want it, then you have within your power the ability to change it. By being watchful, you can begin to detach from negative thoughts, identify and correct problematic behaviors, let go of blame, and hold yourself with compassion. It takes time and patience to break up repetitive patterns, clear out old, outworn beliefs as well as release a lifetime of accumulated physical and emotional stress. The past is over, but we are only free to make changes if we are willing to be fully accountable for our choices. Once we are willing to accept responsibility for creating our reality, we begin to see that there may be more options available to us. It is not a black or white world, life is mostly shades of gray.Your attitudes and the choices you make today will be your life tomorrow, build it wisely. -Author UnknownGood luck and misfortune are not random forces but the direct result of our choices. Every act has an effect and each decision has an end result. Who decides to speak or be quiet, lash out or withdraw? Who decides you have been wronged or insulted? You do! The combination of our choices and the ensuing actions / reactions is the cause of suffering or the key to freedom. What if there are no mistakes? What if each situation, every dilemma, and all difficulties are holding within it a great gift? Once we realize we have the ability to choose any thought, any action or a new direction, we are taking responsibility for creating our reality. The experience of each moment is within your control and it is here that control brings freedom. We are amazing beings and we can learn so much by being the witness to the life we have created thus far. Use the insight gained in hindsight as you explore how many choices were reactive, how many decisions were based on fear or denial and how many times that you truly followed the wisdom of your heart. By exploring the roadmap of your life, you can see what choices brought you joy and those that resulted in unhappiness. This understanding will show you what needs to change so that you can be free to chart a new path, one that takes you where you want to go. With this expanded awareness, make the next choice, a conscious choice, and it will be the right choice for you.Carol A. Lampman
