The SECRET of Success

Author : Anthony Alexander
I have been a student of success for many years. I have read many books, listened to numerous tapes, and attended several seminars on success, motivation, time management, making money, leadership skills, sales, persuasion, and other related topics. I have tried many things: subliminal tapes, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), hypnosis, Transcendental Meditation, psycho cybernetics, affirmations, visualizations, chanting, etc.I have learned a great deal on this fascinating journey and I have actually been able to use the information I learned to accomplish many of my goals. However, not every system worked. For example, there were times when I followed the "7 Steps to Success" and the "10 Keys to Effective Time Management" religiously and I did not become more successful or gain mastery over my time. But the author and many of his satisfied students were convinced that this particular system worked.I read several books on creating wealth and many of these books focused on using affirmations and visualizations. But no matter how clearly I saw my mental pictures in my imagination or how much emotional intensity I mustered when saying my affirmations, I did not attract the wealth I wanted. But apparently, this method has definitely worked for many people – but not for me.It took me a while to figure this out but I finally "got it."This is what I finally figured out: we all live in our own personal reality. In our own personal universe. There are certain things that "work" very well in our own world and other things that just don't work. Within every person's reality are special abilities. These highly personal abilities are usually referred to as having a knack, talent, or having a "special gift."Mozart's talent was music. Alexander the Great's special gift was military conquest. Trying to duplicate someone else's achievement is somewhat foolish because everyone has their own special talent. THEIR talent is not necessarily your talent. Everyone is unique. The essence of greatness is finding your own unique talent and developing it as much as possible, just like Mozart and Alexander did. Herein lies the true meaning of that common saying, "Be Yourself."So when you read in a book about how the author became rich by using visualizations, they are demonstrating that this happens to be one of THEIR special talents. This metaphysical exercise works within the author's reality system. But that does not necessarily mean that it will work within YOUR reality system. Now, an argument can be made that since "thought creates reality," a metaphysical approach to success should work for everyone since we all think. Many authors in the self-help field seem to be working under this assumption. However, this assumption is flawed because not everyone is an introvert. Not everybody has the propensity or desire to look within, create vivid mental pictures, and imagine a "brighter future."There are many folks out there who like to get things done the old fashion way. These people want to work hard and get their hands dirty. They are extroverted in their approach to life and they prefer a more "hands on" approach to getting things done. These practical individuals prefer a clear list of things to do, people to see, and projects to complete. They are not interested in anything metaphysical or "weird." They prefer a practical approach to success. There is a great tendency to generalize when determining how to best get things done. However, generalizing is not always wise. We are all different. We all have our own unique skills and abilities. The SECRET of success is this: Study everything you can. Apply the information. Keep the techniques that actually work. Discard the rest. Use the strategies that work to create your own system. Ultimately, you will only succeed by using your OWN method. You will only achieve your goals by following your own unique path.Every great achiever, winner, and motivational speaker has his own system. There are no carbon copies; everyone is different. Brian Tracy system is different from Denis Waitley's. Les Brown's system is unique. So is Jim Rohn's system. Yes, there are some overlaps. Some ideas are very similar. But every master teaches his own unique methodology that distinguishes him from the rest.So be a trailblazer. Do your own thing. Create your own system. Follow your own path. You want to reach a point at the end of your life where you can look back on a life of accomplishment and proudly proclaim, "I did it MY way" as Frank Sinatra said in one of his songs.Anthony Alexander is a success coach living in New York.
