Strangers In the Earth - We Are Just Passing Through

Author : Fred Fishburne
I Peter 2:11 states, "Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation." Sin should be strange to us.False teachings are going around today saying that the church is to possess the earth as out inheritance with the gospel of Christ. This teaching is not scripture. In the book of Mathew Jesus did say that the meek shall inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5).The earth to which He was referring is the one to come wherein dwells righteousness.I John 2:17 states, "And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever."II Peter 3:1-14, "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of person ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."The Bible does not teach that the gospel of Christ will drive out all evil of this world. It does teach that Christians are to occupy until Christ comes for us to escape the wrath of God that will be poured out upon the earth. Luke 19:12-13 states, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. And called his ten servants and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come."This scripture tells us plainly that Jesus, the nobleman, went to receive for himself a kingdom. Jesus' kingdom will come down from Heaven at the appointed time that he may be King for ever. The only kingdom that God has in this present earth is in the hearts of men and women who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb and are living in righteousness and true holiness.Beware of people that use phrases like, "Win the world for Jesus and those that talk of world unity. The parable of the sower is in effect even now, which states that only the seed, the Word of God, that is sown in good and honest hearts will bring forth fruit unto righteousness. Many will hear the word and receive it with gladness and even bring forth fruit for a season, but the world will enter in and choke the word that was sown and they will be come unfruitful and return to darkness where their unfruitful works cannot be manifested by the light of the gospel. (Luke 8:5-18)This present world will continue to progress in evil deeds because of evil hearts, until the second return of Christ, where He comes to execute Gods wrath on the disobedient.Evil will run rampant in the earth just as it was in the days before the flood, from which Noah and family were spared because he was a righteous man.God always spares the righteous from His wrath. Matthew 24:37-39 states, "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be."Genesis 6:5 states, "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. and the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth...But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord."The fact that God destroyed all evil in the earth by the flood and it has come back and will continue to the point that it was before the flood, lets us know that evil will not be put away permanently until Satan is put away permanently.Fred Fishburne and his wife are owners of a successful health store in McDonough, Ga., since 1994, specializing in combining supplementation and proper nutrition for optimal health benefits.
